This day - maybe not the exact date - eight years ago I moved into my freshmen year dorm. I would have never thought that my college career would have gone the way it did, especially since I wanted to transfer pretty quickly. I showed up late to move in, shocking I know, because I just wasn't too worried about it then. My roommate seemed like a nice enough girl, weird, but nice. She later turned into a big slob, druggie, and all-around mess. Her favorite activities were eating Easy Mac on the couch, rinsing the bowl (not actually washing) and leaving it sitting on the sink and jumping off her lofted bed in the middle of the night. That didn't help with my thoughts of transferring. What did help with those thoughts were my suitemates. We lived in an all-girl dorm that resembled a dungeon on the edge of campus. It wasn't exactly the ideal situation, or what you wish for when you move away to college. Thank God I had my suitemate to get me through that year, and college, and the four years after college. It all started on move in day when I needed to borrow a mouse for my computer, and I walked into their room to ask for one. Two high school friends from Kentucky, and then there was me and my hot mess roommate. I didn't know it then but one of them turned out to be one of the best friends a girl could ask for, a roommate for all four years of school, and someone I still talk to almost daily.
It's hard to believe that eight years later I still remember that day so clearly, especially the fact that it had to have been over 100 degrees outside. It's also hard to believe that I'm a staff member at the same school I enjoyed so much for those four amazing years of undergrad. Ahhh I just feel so old sometimes, but working on a college campus keeps me feeling young too.
...been tryin' to get rid of you ever since. :)
