The trip started with an early morning flight to Chicago, followed by a nice long layover, and then the absurdly long flight. Luckily one of my good friends was on the trip and was able to get our seats beside each other on the long flight so I had some entertainment. I watched movies, read, tried to sleep, chatted, and counted how many times one particular elderly lady annoyed the flight attendants. We arrived in Vietnam late on the first night, but that didn't keep us from doing a little exploring. We found a little restaurant around the corner from our hotel, where beers were approximately $1, then made our way to Apocalypse Now. A bar we visited a few times while in Vietnam.
Our first full day in Vietnam was full of touristy things. We went to the Cu Chi Tunnels, I suffered through a gross lunch and then made a quick stop by the War Remnants Museum. The museum wasn't anything I cared about so I really didn't look at anything there. That night we had a "welcome" dinner at a nice little restaurant and then headed out to a few places, including a weird techno club. The next day we went to the Mekong Delta. Little bus ride, little boat ride, little ride in a cart pulled by a donkey. Just another day in Vietnam.
